Waikato Mini Nationals NZ
All over New Zealand, Classic Mini Enthusiasts Clubs hold the Mini Nationals. The NZ Mini Nationals is a unique weekend where Mini owners travel from all over to join in and participate in the various events the hosting club organizes.
In 2024, Minis Waikato Inc. hosted the Mini Nationals at Lake Karapiro, Waipa.
I proudly sponsored the Waikato NZ Mini Nationals 2024, providing comprehensive design services by producing the event logo, promotional materials, merchandise, and program booklet. My involvement also included capturing event photography and administering online content for social media and websites.
The logo is inspired by Monte Carlo Rally plates and has been the inspiration for the logo over the many years the NZ Mini Nationals has been held.
The poster designs are also inspired by a Monte Carlo Rally poster, with a change of scenery meant to capture the hills and country roads of the Waikato region. These posters served as easy advertisements on the side of our classic cars and were provided to small companies throughout Waipa and Hamilton.

Drawing inspiration from a 2D elongated rectangular cube, the design aimed to create a 3D illusion when viewed from the correct position and perspective.
For the Waikato NZ Mini Nationals 2024, I created and executed a unique event opening image based on this concept: a custom-designed 'Minibox' that served as a creative platform to photograph each participant's car individually in a single shot.
This complex project, achieved through effective collaboration and execution with a few volunteer members, resulted in a memorable and engaging visual that generated significant positive feedback within the club and among all participants.
I designed the 'Minibox,' an elongated shape crafted specifically for this effect. Achieving the right perspective and positioning the cars behind it required time and perseverance.
We used a tarpaulin to serve as both the parking space and the top surface of the Matchbox. The camera also needed to maintain sharp focus on both the car and the design to enhance the illusion.
This proved to be a successful, fun, and creative image that was enjoyed by many, including myself.

This green sticker design is for Rocker Cover Racing, an event held at the Mini Nationals. Each participant must adhere to a specific set of specifications, especially when building their racer. For instance, it must be made from a Mini A-series rocker cover and weigh 3.5kg.
During the Rocker Cover Racing event, participants send their rocker covers down a track equipped with a stop-go system. This system ensures a fair race.
I designed this sticker, which was inspired by a British tax disc. It served as an effective way to identify the rocker cover racers that passed the scrutineering specifications.

With some free moments during the nationals event, I took the chance to photograph the participants during the Motorkhana, focusing on capturing their dynamic movements.
